Steps to Pursue a Non-Credit Internship
1. Research Options
Research internship opportunities and keep a running list of possibilities.
2. Scout Out Available Internships
Talk with other people who have interned and with professors who know of available opportunities in the area.
Apply for many. Internships are competitive (especially during the summer), and the more you apply for, the better your chances. It is your duty to gather all required materials – most require cover letter, resume, transcript, letter of recommendation and statement of interest.
4. Follow Up
Follow up with the organizations/businesses to ensure that they have received all the necessary materials.
5. If You Get an Interview, PREPARE!
If offered an interview, review your application materials before the interview and send a thank you note to your interviewee.
6. Book Flights and Find Housing
If accepted, find housing, book a flight and set a meeting with Dr. Self at firstname.lastname@example.org.
